Unlike the lion, we don't need to eat meat to survive. We used to be vegetarian.

Even if that is true (The used to be vegetarian) our body has to have the proteins from meat that we can't get other-wise now adays (Thank your ancestors from long ago).

So we do need meat to survive and be healthy

This Thanksgiving, my Father-In-Law wants to start a new tradition of going on a Turkey Shoot first thing in the morning. He wants to take the oldest 3 grandkids (ages 6, 4, & 4). My brother-in-law belongs to a club that he has brought his son (one of the 4 year olds) to and they'd be alone without any other hunters. The kids will NOT have weapons of any sort.

Now I'm not opposed to guns or hunting in any form. I also have complete confidence in both my in-laws safety around firearms. But I did express concern in my 4 year old being out there.

Obviously, my wife, having grown up in a hunting family, is fine with the situation and likes the idea of putting a little fear and respect for guns into our son having been out at a similar age and downplays my fears as needless worry but I can't help but feel a little torn...

Am I being over protective? If you hunt, or were brought up around guns, how old were you when you were exposed to firearms?

Which is funny, because if you ask most Catholics, we are anything but extreme Christians and are very accepting of other religions.

So to summarize, yes all Catholics are christians, but not all Christians are Catholics and in fact make a great deal to ensure people know that.

You don't believe you are the first denomination of Christianity. Afterall, when the church split, the Western Roman Empire became Catholic and the Eastern Roman Empire became Orthodox. What the Catholics claim is that Peter decided that the Pope should sit in Rome and not in Constantinople. It was about power and you guys won when you sacked Constantinople and weakened the Eastern Roman Empire, which in turn affected the power balance in the Southeastern Europe. Orthodoxy, in terms of continuity, is the oldest of Christianity. Let's not forget that Christianity started in the east. It is therefore that Armenia and Ethiopia are among the first countries to officially convert to Christianity; and they belong to a different branch of Orthodoxy.

The early powerbase of the Christian church was transfered to the east. It happened when Constantine declared Christianity as the official religion of the empire and moved the capital to Byzantium (Constantinople).
