c.1900 BC-c.1595 BC The Babylonian King Hammurabi has gained hegemony over all of Sumer and Akkadia. He has carved out an extensive empire reaching from the mouth of the Tigris River to the foothills of the Taurus Mountains. Hammurabi's code of laws has kept his subjects loyal and obedient, while his military prowess has resulted in a well-disciplined and ruthless army. The Babylonian army has swept over the land conquering all in its path. Now they have overreached and are positioned at the outskirts of the Assyrian Empire. The Assyrian King, Shamshi-Adad I, has carved out an extensive empire of his own and has established trade with the kingdom of Elam. Now the Assyrians look to exploit the overextended Babylonian armies. Meanwhile the Egyptian Kingdom, led by the Pharaoh Merneferre Ai, is expanding into the territory of the Mitanni and quickly becoming a grave threat to Hammurabi and the Babylonian empire.
