c.321 BC-c.185 BC Under the reign of the Nanda Dynasty, the grand and militant Magadha Empire was strong enough to repel the advances of Alexander the Great. Although unpopular and corrupt, the Nanda Dynasty had a firm grasp on power. The astute and brilliant Chanakya was particularly dismayed with the Nanda King Dhana and vowed to overthrow him. Together with the freedom fighter Chandragupta Maurya, Chanakya devised an ingenious plan to usurp the government. Gathering together guerilla fighters and dissatisfied peasants, the forces of Chandragupta challenged the Nanda King to a battle. While the Magadha army was dispatched to meet the rebel force, Chanakya sent spies to bribe the Magadha generals and insight a civil war in the capital city of Pataliputra. Amid the chaos, the heir to the throne of Magadha was killed and Chanakya was able to garner popular sentiment. King Dhana was forced to abdicate in favor of Chandragupta Maurya. Chandragupta successfully united the many factions under a common banner. His next goal was to unify the entire Indian subcontinent and expel the Macedonian invaders. Sheltered in the dense rainforests to the East is the Funan Empire, ready and eager to conquer their wealthy neighbors. Meanwhile, the powerful Han dynasty is rapidly expanding with covetous eyes on India. The time has come for a new order! Go forth and conquer India! Created by Mark Bauer.
