GAME :: Heard it?
GAME :: Heard it?
Thinking of hosting a film quiz to loosely coincide with Luxtoberfest.
Heard it? is the name of the game.
Players will be supplied clues and attempt to identify which films they refer to. There's nothing fancy about this format or theme I know, you've probably played one of em' before, they breed like flies on networking sites. Clues are typically in the form of trivial-pursuit type questions, memorable film quotes or photos of actors or scenes from a movie.
But how good is your memory for sound?
You can expect to have that put to the test by the clues in this quiz, each of which contain a brief extract from a film's sound track. The challenge will be auditory; use your ears to correctly name the film.
Questions?
* The clues will be supplied as sound files, playable on PC's, Macs and portables. Contestants will receive clues via pm.
To avoid any 'back-seat player' interference I'll refrain from posting the clues in the game thread until after all players have submitted their answers or the timer runs out.
I'll post a notification in the game thread each time a clue is sent out.
* No additional hints, written or pictorial will be given.
* The sound extracts will not be altered or edited in any way from their source material.
* Clues will be selected from a variety of film genres; action, drama, comedy, romance, science fiction, etc.
All films will have had cinema releases and been in circulation for a reasonable period.
Obscure films will not be included.
* This is not a 'Do you know that quote?' quiz. Some clues may not include dialogue at all.
* Musical scores and theme songs will not be the focus of the quiz.
For clues that contain music, identifying the name of the track or musician is neither here nor there (Unless it assists players in placing which film it appeared in)
* A timer will be in effect. (I'll be mindful players live in different time zones)
* Correct answers will not be revealed until the completion of the game.
Anyway, that's it in a nutshell. If you think you’ve probably heard it, sign up!

A warm welcome to the sign-ups.
Here's a sample clue to give players and potential sign-ups a sense of what's in store.
I'd rate this one as moderately difficult. If you think you know the film by all means post your answer.
As previously mentioned, the quiz clues will be sent to players via pm and only posted in the thread after all players have submitted answers or the timer runs out.
What winners look like.

The shock, confusion, embarrassment and depression you're experiencing is just temporary wontrob, next up is panic, resentment, anger and denial.The Wontrob wrote:Behemoth wrote: Here's a sample clue to give players and potential sign-ups a sense of what's in store.
Seriously though, the sample clue's a tough one.
/me applauds coon for taking a punt but suggests he guess again.

Be great to have another 5 or so sign-up; registration is still open for anyone interested. Either way, players should start thinking with their ears already - Round 1 has begun.
Links to 8 clues for this round have been sent via pm to players. Two more rounds will follow with approximately 20-25 clues to answer in total. The clues range in difficulty. If you find yourself stumped, a best guess is better than nothing.
A 72 hour time limit per round feels about right. I won't set a limit on this round just yet, not until registration closes... so you can do your listening at a leisurely pace.
/me encourages coon to keep speculating.

That would be breaking the fundamental laws of trivial quizzes. No, in short.
However... I'll grant the first player who correctly answers the sample clue a 'Guess Again Card', transferrable for one incorrect answer submitted.
Players must post their answers to the sample clue in the thread, not via pm. Three guesses for this one is permitted. Milltycoon's already had two.
So far so good for you though Mud.
