Well, as Tide pointed out, Nim, it will never stop...
It's not just that the extreme left spouts their hateful shit about fundamentalists (oh my gosh! There are people who believe the Bible! They'll destroy America!), or that the extreme right spouts their hateful shit about social liberals (Oh no! They want people to assist the poor, they must be socialists!), its that people believe them.
I am really coming to believe the key has to be in the individual person actually defending their ideological opponents and distinguishing between disagreeing on politics and people being, oh, say, evil...lol...

Goten6456 shudders...
These "rumors" reported by Fox News are coming from Republicans within the former McCain campaign, which is pretty close to the same place the Muslim rumors came from (but not exactly). Now whether these disgruntled Republicans who made these statements are embellishing the truth -or flat out lying- is certainly to be debated. I'm no Palin fan and honestly think she is and would be bad for the Republican party but not so sure I buys this. Though I have to say, if true, I wouldn't be blown away.

I'm not really sure what is beginning?
Are you saying fox news is bashing him by putting that as a headline. I actually love dogs and think it's kind of cool.....and an important issue in my household.....so I'm not really sure what you were upset about or if you just took the article the wrong way because of its heading.

It's possible that I'm taking it the wrong way, Will. But since I watched the press conference- it was clear he was giving a tongue in cheek answer to a question asked of him by a reporter regarding the new first dog. (cannot believe I just typed that)Big Will E Style wrote:... I'm not really sure what you were upset about or if you just took the article the wrong way because of its heading.

My guess is it's just a slow news day and Fox News probably put it up as a tongue in cheek article...... No matter what, I'll be interested to see what type of dog he'd have. Personally, I'd have a german shepherd (my current dog) because I'd feel safe, they're great companions and good with kids. What type of dog would you all have?

Interesting article on a former White House butler that gives some good perspective on how racial relations have changed over the last 50 years. It's a bit long, but worth reading to the end.
Link to entire articleWhen he started at the White House in 1952, he couldn't even use the public restrooms when he ventured back to his native Virginia. "We had never had anything," Mr Allen, 89, recalls of black America at the time. "I was always hoping things would get better."
Well, excuse me for poking some political fun.
Did I ever say Biden never messed up? NEVER! Barack and Joe are perfect human beings and never make a mistake!
You guys tell me when you are ready to have fun, instead of taking everything so seriously, then maybe I'll "open up my mind" and "not believe everything I hear."

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force. I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism. That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did. When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist. We can't be lulled into complacency. You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."

I think his comments may been a little extreme, but I also think he isn't comparing Obama to Hitler, as much as he is saying that it is just one of many things that could lead to the potential of how Hitler became to be who he was........
I'm not really sure I agree with what Obama is proposing. I haven't read much about it beyond what was quoted, but it does seem like an odd program, as if our army isn't doing the job.....
But you guys can't really be upset about the Hitler reference. I can't tell you how many times in the past 8 years Bush has been called Hitler.

"It's almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that," Mr Ellison said. "After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it, and it put the leader [Hitler] of that country in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted."
Keith Ellsion (D) MN
Link
Republican response:
Mark Drake, of the Republican party in Minnesota, said: "To compare the democratically elected leader of the United States of America to Hitler is an absolute moral outrage which trivialises the horrors of Nazi Germany."

Normally I don't research obviously stupid shit that politicians say, but I'm strongly opposed to the idea of having an armed security force to "control" the populace...
So here are the details of what Obama really said, from one of the only online sources I trust to get their facts straight.

Here is a similar instance where Democratic Senator Byrd, former KKK member, and now longest standing member in congress, compared republican tactics to Hitlers.

Blind Willie wrote:Thanks for the links guys. It's nice to know that both parties have been saying ignorant and divisive bullshit. I guess that makes it ok for them to keep doing it, right? Or can we finally move on and reject the "but they did it too" defense as the petty, immature act that it is?
I was just saying that it happens on both sides. I wasn't trying to justify it being said by either side. I think it's a silly scare tactic for politicians. Then you asked for me to find an example, and Tide and I both did. Then you call my argument petty and immature. I don't understand. I guess I can't win.
