Chess Tournament Standings

Post by The Wontrob » Mon Feb 04, 2008 1:05 pm

Ok so I'm a little late on this. Assuming everyone who signed up is still in and up for this, and I will be sending out PMs to make sure, games start as soon as you can. Meaning today. At chessatwork you can search players by usernames and challenge that way, although some of your names arent coming up (I assume its if you haven't played any games), or you can start a new game and put their chessatwork username in to send a challenge as well.

I will be posting results and updates ON THIS POST so dont just check the new posts.

Second round will work in the same way the first did (top two move on, four more leave)

The third round will be a round of the 4 remaining players. Tiebreakers will be determined later as the need arises.

FINAL ROUND
Deucelux
Trefalcon
Damanimal1
AquaRegia

So we choose one person from each of the other three groups to have 3 games total?

How do we know who has chosen whom? Should we post here once the matches start so we know who is still available?

No you play the two other people in your group. I used Minitab to randomly assign groups. Statistics class has proven good for something.

Is it too late to make a suggestion? We might consider playing TWO games against each of our two group opponents, one as black and the other white. This way we'd each have 4 games for the first round, 2 white and two black - totally fair.

Playing 4 games simultaneously is not really a problem - even for slow people like me.

Just a little consideration... I'm not a subscribing member, so I can only play 6 games at once. I'm already in the middle of 5 others, so Ill have to wait until one is over to begin my second Lux game.

ps Aquas way does make sense, since as it is it will be uneven in terms of playing color. Another remedy would be for eveyone to use the 'random' color setting.

I used random for my games.

If unregges can only play 6 at a time 4 for the tourny might be a bit much; i was playing four before starting my two. Also, my elimination method for this round was going to be anyone who lost both their games. I suppose I could still cut the losing record from each group but I think this way is easier. Plus, in later rounds when its one game at a time, matches that end 1-1 will give me an aneurysm. I know there is a (slight) advantage involved, but I think its just easier to do this way. But I'll consider it.

Goten and MWHM, can you guys try to move a little quicker if possible?

I only have a stable internet connection until this Sunday. After Sunday I'll be having to find internet cafe's down the northwest coast of Africa, and will only be able to move every couple days.

Right now I can move within an hour.

You may have noticed, perhaps, that the way Im chasing your horsey dude is by advancing my pawns into excellent position, firmly taking control of the center of the board, while you have yet to move a single piece besides said horsey dude?

Perhaps?

I won both my games. They aren't technically OVER yet, but I won.

Just curious - what's the plan AFTER the first round? We could have 4 at 2 pts and 4 at 1 pt, but if draws occur, there will be some at 1.5 or 0.5 . What next?

DAMN YOU AQUA!!! LET ME FINISH LAYING DOWN THE SMACK AGAINST UC!!!

:D

I don't really care how we proceed but I'm all for giving the 2 game winners some kind of advantage over the 1.5, 1, and possible .5 game winners.

We could just mix up the groups into one large group for round 2 with the top two point players playing best of 3...

Unless of course our poppin fresh school boy already has it figured out!!!
