Do bots learn?

Post by Jimmy_D » Thu May 17, 2007 1:49 am

I have noticed on my map "stock market" that in the beginning the bots were not very good, but later they seemed to improve drastically.

Is this my imagination?

Do the Lux bots try to emulate winning strategies?

Is there some method of creating an "opening book" of move as you would for a chessbot? (To remember moves and their final result?)

Bots do learn, but not in the way you think.

If you noticed an improvement in the bots on your map, then it's probably a coincidence. Or perhaps something else changed, like the card or continent settings. Was Reaper involved? There were new versions recently released, and that could have changed the way he plays on that map.

Reaper has a special learning mode that I use to train him. Right now I am trying to make him learn faster, and not just on the classic map. The learning uses a genetic algorithm, a trial and error technique: try to vary some parameters, pit the modified Reapers against each other, keep the best one, and repeat....
