Move History....

Post by n00less cluebie » Sun May 25, 2008 2:26 pm

For the purposes of more effective AI's and for the ability to "replay games", how difficult would it be to implement a system to export a history of all the moves from a Lux Game.

It could have some kind of HTML format, similar to Map Files.
And then consist of a list of moves
E.g.

<Turn>
<Player>
<Movement>
Kam -> Jap: Lose 2 (6, 4, 2) : (6, 5)
Kam -> Jap: Split (5, 4, 1) : (4, 4)
Kam -> Jap: Win 2 (4, 4, 2): (3, 1)
.
.
.
</Movement>
<Fortify>
Irk - > Yak: 5
Yak -> Sib : 2
</Fortify>
</Player>
.
.
.
</Turn>

This could be made a little more efficient by not storing dice results, and lumping all the attacks between the same countries together:

E.g.

Kam -> Jap: (-14, -18) ; shows that the attacker lost 14, and the defender lost 18

So what's the feasibility of this?

I would prefer a notification as it occurs, there's a message function in the API that could be used. The log would only work id you were doing training oriented learning. With a message I could log it for training or use it right then.

Wait, so do you imagine this to be like computer chess games that have a move log?

Good point guest. Real time messaging would be even better. But how nice would it be to go through the move history of a game or two.... (let alone what an AI could do to learn from players....)

the log would probably be huge, but it would open up the ability to "replay" a game, so people could watch it unfold...instead of posting about asshats and halfkills, people would post a link to a replay of whatever move and it could be evaluated on its merits.

I think a replay would be a great feature to have. Much like in Sid Meier's Civilization where, at the end of the game, you get to see how things developed. It would make it easier to examine other people's strategy, as well as your own!
