Tournament Details: final
Eligibility: Players should be able to manage two-way communication with Bean as well as fellow tournament competitors. A good way is to use this thread or Private Messages in this forum. Bean is not competing in the tournament.
The structure: Imperium Romanum Expletus 20 seconds, 25% cards. 20% conts. 1-on-1 tournament with 4 Preliminary games for everyone, followed by a break to around 50% of the pool for sudden death elimination rounds. Single games for preliminaries, with best 2-out-of-3 for eliminations, including the Final. Awards to semifinalists and finalists.
Procedure: Players have up to 10 days to play a 1-on-1 game with each of your assigned opponents. If a clean bracket cannot be made, then wildcard games may be assigned. Semifinalists will have 5 days to complete their best-of-3 rounds with assigned opponents and then 5 more days for the two Finalists to do their thing. Players can post their times in this thread for the convenience of any acolytes or fans. Each game result must be reported by number, time, and date in this thread.
If a player exits the game and let's their bot replacement win, they forfeit that game.
Only IRE 20 counts.
Special notes:
1. Any 1on1 games against your assigned opponents count, even if you hadn't made an appointment with them. So, don't play them unless you are ready.
2. Do not let other players in your game. It's a 1-on-1 tournament. The game won't count.
Click well.
Care for your carpal tunnel.
Old post: As you would expect after 10k games, I have not seen much new in Lux for awhile. I was excited for Castles a couple years. I liked when I found out about Bio Imperium. I didn't know how much I would like it when Pauley introduced me, but Cube Wars is sort of it's own thing. Love it.
Weirdly, I have found something new and exciting in Imperium. Just a simple change of settings. 25/20 Cards/Income. 20 second timer.
It is a brand new game and very fun. Sometimes it can be long, but I think it's just that we are not very good at it yet. It gets you to the end game relatively quickly and then it's hard to put it to bed because of the 20 seconds. It's not twitchy in the traditional sense. It just keeps going and really tests you. Landlord and I have played a few games and he hopefully will back me up here. It is very fun and totally new game dynamics.
Try it out. I'm thinking of organizing a 1 on 1 tournament with a bracket.
Thoughts? Entries for the vaguely defined tournament?

Re: IRE 20 Tournament
Cool idea! Have you tried it with more then 1-1 players?
Re: IRE 20 Tournament
i have only tried tournaments that way in Lux. I am more familiar with tabulating 1on1 and most games are 2 or 3 people these days. Also, these settings are mainly about the end game with 2 people. In fact, if I had the gumption to implement scenarios, I would do that, so spare folks the 5 or 10 rounds of farming and building.
Not sure it will happen. 2 entries so far. oh well. At least I posted something that didn't complain about bio deux.
er, oh, wait... shooot.

Re: IRE 20 Tournament
Sign me up. There have been similar settings in Rome like this before, and it is a lot of fun trying to run the board in very little time with huge cash inreases.
Re: IRE 20 Tournament
Thanks DB; I put your name on the list. I will update the post to flesh out a few more details now that we appear to be nearish a critical mass.
I am looking to recruit Oli (language unknown) and Malik, but am language deficient.
Has anyone read 'The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire'? It is fascinating. I had know idea how many short-lived emperors there were or that it was sometimes hard (as with Tacitus) to convince someone to take a chance with their life on accepting the purple. It's probably taught in World Civ 101, but alas I did not notice the need at the time.

Nevermind, I just saw the premade room.
Next question- what happens if a bot wins the game?

Re: IRE 20 Tournament; Entries Closed; It's on!
Landlord vs Dangerous Beans:
Landlord Wins!!!
Landlord Wins!!!
Re: IRE 20 Tournament; Entries Closed; It's on!
You have to beat the bots too; you can't claim victory over your opponent. Hope this makes DB happy with legitimacy issues.
Re: IRE 20 Tournament; Entries Closed; It's on!
Knitter dropped out over a personal matter as disclosed above, so now i am fixing the pairings by saying this:
Malik, Landlord, Deep blue, Wolfyote
You all must play me instead of knitter. Malik you get a second chance.

Re: IRE 20 Tournament; Entries Closed; It's on!
I already play all so how long are u trying to buy time?
Re: IRE 20 Tournament; Entries Closed; It's on!
landlord, I don't have reports of your results. do you mean to say you have played all four of your games? Who are you claiming is buying time? Your communication is very confusing. Please help.
Re: IRE 20 Tournament; Entries Closed; It's on!
nothing to claim is just the fact
Re: IRE 20 Tournament; Entries Closed; It's on!
I"m cancelling it. Too much like herding cats. I'll pick a better theme next time, or maybe just focus my efforts on readers of instructions, good sports, and brave hearts. hugs.
