Is the Lux brand worth anything?

Post by Maginot » Thu Apr 01, 2021 6:40 pm

I, for one, have way too much sentimental attachment to Lux and our shared history.

So, my opinions are suspect, and likely reflect only my own beliefs, and no one else's.

Often, I wonder if this game can be resurrected, turned around, etc.; or, perhaps, everyone needs a new beginning.

Anyone wanna share their thoughts in a serious way?

(At some point, nature needs to zig or zag; the inevitable becomes evitable.)

Lux seems to be surviving. And I'm having fun playing it again.
That's good enough for me :)

Surviving how, exactly? Online activity is currently at a historical low.

(If three or four big names stop playing tonight, then the bottom falls out completely, no?)

(The few remaining serious players could kill Lux by choosing to play only in unofficial, offline hosts; but what then; new game?)

Moderators? Surely, you are here to defend dustin and Sillysoft, no?

Please, tell me that I'm wrong.

Okay, you're wrong. :smt077

The Lux that you enjoyed should be a pleasant memory for you. It certainly is for me, and I'll probably still look in every once in a while, but I won't expect (and honestly don't know that I'd want) it to be the same as it was a dozen years ago. I met some amazing people here-- including you. Best $20 I ever spent.

The Lux that exists now obviously is a pleasant experience for those who continue playing and hosting. Let them enjoy it in peace.

As one of those people that still checks in from time to time, I’ll bite. I guess I agree in TSK’s assessment. Those who still enjoy playing the game still have the ability to do so and kudos to Dustin for keeping it online in some sort of official capacity well past its prime.

We had many discussions along the way with Dustin being directly involved in some about the “future” of Lux. For better or worse, this is what the future became .. a niche game with a dying/dead online user base.

We can always coulda, woulda, shoulda but this game was always going to be at Dustin’s mercy and he let it become what it has and if he’s happy with that so be it. I had countless hours of competition and fun for a small investment and I left once there wasn’t that left for me personally.

The game had a great foundation, but even the RISK type sites with the largest player bases (with the option to play daily moves, which I think was a missed opportunity) are fading into obscurity .. there just aren’t that many people interested. Maybe Dustin saw that coming, maybe he didn’t want to put in the effort, maybe he just didn’t care all that much.

Other than getting Dustin on board for some massive overhaul, buying it, becoming his competition, or coming to terms with what it was and is now, there’s really nothing left but to check in from time to time and remember the good ol days.

That was a joke guys. C'mon, there has to be enough love from some of you to get a fh going... good grief.

Good to see it's still alive. Kudos to Dustin, the mods and all who keep it going.

It is a great game but sadly we all killed a little bit each time we behaved like children playing a board game. This was I guess inevitable given the nature of the game. The falling out must have been tedious to deal with and probably meant Dustin focussed on less stressful activities.

Oh and a big wave to all those still luxing. I miss Meron :)
