A bunch of games died. What happened to them all?

sillysoft servers probably lost their connection to the interwebs. Unless the machines rebooted, they will be back.

Strange. Actually the server is still up and running. If you enter
80.86.82.xxx:3323 (edit: removed the last 3 digits now, pm me if you still need them) as the private game address, you have access again.
(Don't forget to remove the address if you want to play other games ;-))

Here is the log file for dustin, but nothing serious shows up... Maybe this was the same effect as to imperium romanum ?

Doesn't seem to work for me. After entering that in the 'Private Game Address' textfield, do I click refresh? I've tried, of course, hit enter too, but nothing seems to bring up a different list.

BTW, the games are gone again.

Yes, I was able to connect using the IP address. The only game I am in that I can see on the list is WWII - Urals :deadhorse

unfortunately, with games lasting weeks or months, this type of thing will happen more and more frequently. Hosts can disconnect, causing missed turns and lost games.

I think there needs to be something built into Vox that saves the game state and can restart/reload it from there in case of a crash. Perhaps each game should save a file to the host machine after any player hits "finished moves"? Then it can restart from the last position in case of crash or connection interruption.

now lost jesterserve so only 3 left.

RG does this not already exist, I am sure games have disappeared before and come back where they left off.

One can get the private addresses (ip + port) from the log file in the support folder, but it is reset if the application is restarted.
jesterme's host is still reachable like mentor's.

Actually its not that easy to implement as you might think. I know Dustin is thinking about it though, we had a discussion about it. Anyways it would not help in this case since all hosts are still running. I guess the problem is the tracker this time since multiple hosts are affected. Usually only dustins hosts at home disappereared due to broken ip connections...

This time all connections are running - i checked the connections to the tracker, 6 of them are in established state only one is in time wait (i.e. connection closed). If you use the port adresses from 3319 up you will find the different servers on a host.

If the machine is still running but just disconnected from the internet, it is still there all along and resumes (but time passes while it is disconnected and people may miss turns).

If the computer restarts or the host closes the game, it is gone.

I still have my host up, waiting for one player to finish moves. But it is not listed on the tracker anymore. The chances are poor that anyone has the IP address to join so this likely kills the game.

hmm... I was able to get the daily games to re-appear on the tracker.

Their disappearance happened the day after I flew across the country to visit my family for the holidays. So they might disappear again, but I should be able to bring them back again.

Post by mentor09 » Tue Dec 21, 2010 11:48 am

... every time i try to connect dustins hosts, i get a connection timeout :-(

Anyone to confirm this? (Maybe activated firewall at dustin's home?)

And now, 4 Minutes later they are gone again...

Same here, mentor. I sometimes see at least a few of dustin's on the tracker for a short time.
Connections time out whether visible on the tracker or not.

I can see the games on the tracker now, but I cant join the room. (Hex Lord)

✱ Connecting to remote Vox Server at 174.6.20.xx port 3323... ✱
✱ Could not connect ✱

same for anyone else?

But I managed to join the WW2 room

✱ Connecting to remote Vox Server at 98.192.129.1xx port 3319... ✱

is it a port problem?
